In 2009 Leicester City Council approached The Bamboo Flooring Company to supply the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery with 400 square meters of hard wearing and eco-friendly flooring and accessories.

The museum, which is Leicester’s original museum, has a wide range of collections and displays spanning the natural and cultural world.  It has an average of 250,000 visitors per year so required a flooring material that could cope with such a high footfall in a popular and busy commercial property.

Our company recommended Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring – Natural with a tongue and groove profile so that it could be securely fixed down with Bona R848.  The strand woven bamboo flooring has been installed in various areas of the New Walk Museum, including: the main entrance, corridors, stair cases, the Costa Coffee shop and their gift shop.  Although the flooring they chose was of a natural bamboo colour, it was decided to use Strand Woven Bamboo Stair Nosing in Carbonised, as the product is darker in colour so provides a much needed contrast for the stair edges to help visually impaired staff, guests and visitors.

Leicester City Council and The New Walk Museum are extremely pleased with the durability and appearance of the strand woven bamboo flooring that they have chosen.
