Looking after your bamboo floor in the winter months is extremely important.  Bamboo is a natural product, and although it is hardwearing, it can become damaged, scratched and dented if you do not care for it properly.  As the weather turns colder and wetter it is crucial to protect your floor from the bleak outside conditions.

Throughout winter, the main concerns for your bamboo floor are water, dirt and rubble which can be brought inside on shoes, boots and clothes.  Stones and grit can easily cause dents and scratches on the surface of your floor.  Additionally, you have the risk of rain, snow or slush reaching your floor and soaking into the bamboo.  Over time, this can discolour your floor and could cause it to distort.

Follow this advice to avoid unwanted damage to your floor in the winter months:

Remove all outdoor footwear

Ask all visitors and family members to remove their outdoor footwear.  This is will help to reduce the amount of dirt and grit reaching your bamboo floor. Ideally you should keep dirty or wet footwear in a different room, or on a mat.  Never leave outdoor or dirty footwear on your bamboo floor.

Use doormats at entrance doors

Using a doormat will allow visitors to wipe any excess water or dirt from their shoes.  It is also a great place to leave your outdoor footwear if you don’t have a porch or separate room.

Try to keep your bamboo flooring clean and dry

Sweeping your bamboo on a daily basis is a great way to keep your floor clean. Then cleaning should be done when needed, but we would strongly recommend doing this every few days or as your floors become dull or dirty.
