Natural bamboo flooring has the golden tones of the bamboo plant. When you think of a bamboo plant growing, you probably imagine the hard-green husk on the outside. To make the bamboo flooring we strip away the husk and use the inner golden part of the plant. This bamboo is then cut, dried and made into flooring.
If you are choosing between horizontal and vertical bamboo flooring, you should know that they are very similar floors, with the main difference being the way that the grain pattern appears.
What is natural horizontal bamboo?
Horizontal bamboo flooring has a wider grain pattern with visible distinctive bamboo knots throughout the planks of flooring. This is because the strips of bamboo have been glued together horizontally. It is a solid bamboo plank with a tongue and groove fitting system and a protective satin lacquer on the surface.
What is natural vertical bamboo?
Vertical bamboo flooring has a narrower grain pattern with subtle glimpses of the bamboo knots through the planks of flooring. This is because the strips of bamboo have been glued together vertically. It is a solid bamboo plank with a tongue and groove fitting system and a protective satin lacquer on the surface.
Both types of flooring can either be glued down to the subfloor using a full surface bond or floated over an underlay. They are both really easy to look after and are a sustainable alternative to wooden flooring. If you would like to know more about how they are made, please read:
