It is definitely worth thinking about how to protect your bamboo floor over the Christmas period.  Christmas tends to be associated with cold, wet weather and visits from friends and family, and there are simple things that can be done to protect your flooring from any unwanted damage.

Protecting your bamboo floor from the winter weather

Cold, wet, winter weather is inevitable and almost impossible to avoid in this country. The most important thing to think about is how to stop any dirt, grit, water, snow and debris being brought into your house and onto your bamboo floor.  Although bamboo is quite a durable and strong flooring material, it can be scratched and dented if grit and stones are walked on, and can be severely damaged by water, if left to soak into the bamboo planks.  Follow these three simple steps to prevent any unwanted damage:

1. Sweep and clean your bamboo floors regularly to get rid of any dirt or debris that has made its way into your home.

2. It is worth putting doormats at entrance doors – they will help to catch any outdoor dirt as people enter your home.

3. Ask family, visitors and guests to remove their outdoor footwear before walking on your bamboo floor.

If you have an increased amount of visitors this Christmas then you can easily protect your bamboo floor by asking them to remove their outdoor footwear. Also remember to keep on top of sweeping any dirt and debris from your floor before any visitors arrive and again once they have left.

Protecting your bamboo floor from your Christmas tree

A real Christmas tree can look beautiful but you should ensure that you put something underneath the tree pot to minimise the risk of any water leaking or spilling onto your bamboo floor.  Real trees can also lose a lot of needles throughout the Christmas period, so it is important that you sweep around and underneath the tree on a regular basis so that they are not walked on or dragged across your floor. An artificial tree can also look stunning but it is important to remember that most of them have either plastic or metal stands that can easily scratch your bamboo floor, so again put a cloth, mat or rug down underneath the tree to stop any unwanted damage.
