Carbonised bamboo flooring is a great choice if you are looking for a medium brown coloured floor.  ‘Carbonised’ refers to the process of smoking the bamboo to get achieve a rich brown, coffee colour. It is a common misconception that the surface of the flooring has been stained to give it the brown tones, but it is actually the same colour running throughout the depth of the flooring.

How does bamboo become carbonised?

When the raw bamboo is being prepared, any fibres or strips that are set aside for carbonised flooring will be smoked in a kiln.  This extreme heat changes the colour of the bamboo fibers, turning them darker and darker.  Once the smoking process has finished, the bamboo is turned into planks or blocks of flooring.
