A bamboo flooring ‘wear layer’ is the top layer of bamboo on an engineered plank of flooring. It is the part of the plank that you see when it has been installed, and the element of the flooring that you ultimately walk on.
Wear layer explained
The bamboo wear layer is the top surface of any engineered bamboo flooring plank. Engineered bamboo flooring generally has a wear layer (surface layer of bamboo) of 4mm in thickness in strand woven bamboo. This is the part that you see, feel and walk on. The thickness of a wear layer is only really important if you want to sand and re-finish the flooring in years to come. Once you have installed your engineered bamboo flooring, it looks no different to solid bamboo.
