Bamboo Flooring Fitting Profiles

A bamboo flooring fitting profile is the part of the plank of flooring that determines how it can be fitted. For example, whether you have a tongue and groove style floor, or a click fitting system.  Each plank of bamboo will already have a fitting profile, which is machined into the plank during the manufacturing stage.  Depending on which fitting profile you choose will determine how you install your bamboo.

There are two main fitting profiles that you will come across:

Tongue and Groove Fitting Profile

A tongue and groove system is the most traditional way to fit a floor.  Each plank of flooring has a tongue (protruding edge) along one long and one short side, and a groove (rebated edge) along one long and one short side.  The tongues fit into the grooves to provide a snug and secure fit.

With a tongue and groove profile, you have the choice to either float your bamboo over an underlay (if you have a suitable subfloor) or fix it directly down to the subfloor. If you decide to float your floor, you will need to use a WPVA glue to bond the tongues and grooves together.  If you decide to fix the floor down, you will need to use a full surface bond of a flexible flooring adhesive.

Uniclic Fitting Profile

Uniclic is the patented name for our click fitting system.  The planks will simply click and lock together to provide a tight and smooth fit. The beauty of choosing a uniclic bamboo floor is that you don’t need to use any glue if you choose to float your floor over an underlay.  However, if you decide to fix the bamboo to the subfloor, you will need to use a flexible flooring adhesive to create a full surface bond.
