Ordering the correct amount of Bamboo Flooring

When you are buying a new bamboo floor, you want to make sure that you order the correct amount of bamboo flooring.  Ordering too much can mean having excess planks that will either go to waste, or you will have to pay to return to your supplier. If you order too little, then you may have to order more packs of flooring.

You need to be careful doing this as you will want the same batch number of flooring so that it matches correctly. Here is how to ensure you order the correct amount of bamboo flooring:

Items you will need:

• A tape measure to take the measurements

• Pen and paper to draw your room and make notes of the measurements

• A calculator to work out the area of the room

Things to remember:

• Never guess the measurements of the room. Always measure correctly and double check all measurements.

• Measure your room in meters. This is how the flooring is sold, so it will make things easier when deciding how many packs of flooring you will need.

• We advise adding on 5% to your room calculations to allow for wastage

• If you are unsure about any of your measurements or calculations, please speak to us. Will can help you to double check any calculations.

How to measure a square or rectangular room

1. Firstly, measure the length of the room using your tape measure (5m)

2. Secondly, measure the width of the room using your tape measure (4m)

3. Now multiply these measurements together; length by the width (5m x 4m = 20m²)

4. This gives you the area of your room: 20m².

5. You will now need to add on 5% to account for wastage (20m² x 1.05 = 21m²)

6. This means that you should order at least 21m² of flooring

How to measure a more complex shaped room

1. Firstly, draw the shape of the room on your paper

2. Secondly, spilt the room into simple sections of squares or rectangles and label each section with A and B

3. Now, staring with section A - measure the length of this section using your tape measure (2m)

4. Still with section A - measure the width of this section using your tape measure (1.5m)

5. Now multiply these measurements together - length by width (2m x 1.5m = 3m²)

6. So, the area of section A is 3m²

7. Now do the same for section B - measure the length of this section using your tape measure (5m)

8. Still with section B - measure the width of this section using your tape measure (2.5m)

9. Now multiply these measurements together - length by width (5m x 2.5m = 12.5m²)

10. So, the area of section B is 5m²

11. To get the total area of the room add together the area of section A and section B (3m² + 12.5m² = 15.5m²)

12. The total area of your room is 15.5m².

13. You will now need to add on 5% to account for wastage (15.5m² x 1.05 = 16.275m²)

14. This means that you should order at least 16.275m² of flooring

Following these simple steps will help to make sure that you are ordering the correct amount of bamboo flooring.  If you are still in doubt about your calculations, there is a room calculator on our website.
