When choosing a new bamboo floor you may wonder whether to opt for (Tongue and Groove) T&G or Click bamboo. Once the bamboo flooring is laid, it will look exactly the same, but you might want to know the differences between them.
What is T&G Bamboo Flooring?
T&G bamboo flooring is where each plank of flooring has a tongue and a groove on the long and the short sides. A tongue is a sticking out edge and a groove is a slotted edge. The tongues fit into the grooves perfectly to create a seamless and smooth bamboo floor. T&G bamboo flooring can be installed over any type of subfloor that has been fully prepared and checked. It can be fixed to the subfloor with glue or secret nails, or floated over an underlay. To find out more about installing T&G bamboo flooring have a look at our Installation Guide.
What is Click Fitting Bamboo Flooring?
Click fitting bamboo flooring has been specially designed and produced for easy installation. The click fitting is on each edge of the plank of flooring. You simply click and lock the planks of bamboo flooring into place, without the use of glue, screws or nails. Installing click fitting bamboo requires less skill and equipment than installing T&G bamboo. Click bamboo flooring is more popular than T&G so you can generally find more choice of colour and plank sizes. It must be installed over a solid subfloor (not joists), that has been properly prepared and checked. It can be floated over an underlay, used with underfloor heating or fixed to the subfloor with flexible flooring adhesive.
