Why does my bamboo floor have gaps between the planks?

As bamboo is a natural material, your bamboo flooring will inevitably expand and contract with changes in temperature, humidity and moisture throughout the seasons. During the colder, winter months you may start to notice gaps developing between the planks of flooring.

This is because in colder periods, properties tend to have central heating systems on more frequently, which creates dry air with low humidity, which in turn will cause your planks of flooring to lose moisture and start to shrink slightly. Do not worry about slight gaps between your planks of bamboo flooring during colder weather as it should start to expand and return to normal as soon as the weather gets warmer and moisture returns to the air.
