When buying a bamboo floor, there are certain things that you need to take into consideration. Purchasing a new floor is a big decision and as bamboo floor can last for decades, you will want to make sure you have made the right choice. Here are some important things that you should consider:

Where is your bamboo floor going?

Bamboo flooring is versatile so you can install it in almost any room in your home.  It is a really popular choice for hallways, kitchens, living areas and bedrooms. All types of bamboo have dimensional stability, meaning that you can use them in rooms where temperatures fluctuate, which makes them perfect for conservatories, areas with large amounts of glazing or rooms with log burners.  As bamboo flooring is durable, you may even want to use it on your staircase.

We would not recommend that you install bamboo flooring in any type of wet area, such as bathrooms, utility rooms or wet rooms.

How to prepare your existing subfloor?

The subfloor is the base floor that the property already has, in other words, whatever is underneath your existing tiles, carpet or wooden floor. The most common types of subfloors are wooden floorboards, joists, concrete or plywood.  Before installing your new bamboo floor, you will need to ensure that your subfloor is fully flat, level and dry.  For more information, please read: How to prepare my subfloor.

What colour flooring would you like?

Bamboo flooring is available in a wide range of colours, ranging from pale grey, through to golden and taupe floors and even dark chestnut brown.  You decision will, more than likely, depend on the style of you home and the décor in the room.  We would recommend that you order some free samples to have a look at in the comfort of your own home.

How busy is the room where the floor is going?

All types of bamboo flooring are durable and hardwearing, but if you are thinking of having it in a busy area, then we would recommend using strand woven bamboo flooring.  It has been designed and developed to be over twice as hard as Oak flooring and is one of the hardest natural flooring products available.

Do you have or want underfloor heating?

Both solid and engineered bamboo flooring can be compatible with underfloor heating as they can withstand the constant changes in temperature.  Check out our underfloor heating compatible range before you make your final decision.

What style of bamboo flooring are you looking for?

Bamboo flooring is available in two main styles, plank flooring and parquet block.  Plank style bamboo can be found in different widths and sizes, whereas parquet is a smaller uniform block that can be used to create geometric patterns. Both can look amazing; the choice is down to your personal preference.

How are you going to add the finishing touches to your floor?
