Damp Proof Membranes

A Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) helps to prevent moisture from being transmitted to above surfaces. It is usually used when laying wooden flooring onto concrete as it acts as a barrier between the concrete (or screed) and your bamboo flooring.

Why would I need a damp proof membrane?

You would need to use a damp proof membrane if you do not already have a built in, functional DPM into your subfloor.  A damp proof membrane can protect your bamboo floor from any rising moisture in the concrete.  If your subfloor is not completely dry, the bamboo flooring can absorb the excess moisture from the concrete and could ruin your flooring by distorting the planks and discolouring the wood.

Always check your subfloor is dry (using a concrete moisture meter) before installing any bamboo floor.
