Profile Type

There are two different profile types of bamboo flooring. They are ‘tongue and groove’ and ‘click’. The more traditional method of fitting a floor is using the tongue and groove profile type. This is where each plank of bamboo has one long side and one short side with a protruding tongue and one long side and one short side with a rebated groove. The flooring has been carefully made so that the tongues and grooves fit effortlessly together to provide a tight and secure fit. The alternative option is the more modern and simple to use click fitting system. The planks of click bamboo flooring have interlocking joints on the edges to provide and secure fit without the need for glue or nails.

If fitted correctly, both profile types can provide a beautiful gap-free flooring which can last for decades if looked after properly.

Which flooring profile type should I choose?

The type of flooring profile that you choose is mainly going to be based on personal preference. Click fitting bamboo flooring is becoming ever so popular with home renovators as it can be fitted more easily than Tongue and Groove flooring and does not require the need for specialist equipment or glue.

If you are still unsure about which style and profile of bamboo flooring to choose, have a look at our Bamboo Flooring Guide, which offers more detailed information.

How do I install the different profile types?

Bamboo flooring is relatively straight forward to install. All types of bamboo can either be floated over an underlay, or they can be glued directly to the subfloor using flexible flooring adhesive. If you are fitting your bamboo flooring into a commercial property, we recommend that you glue it down.

With a tongue and groove fitting profile you will also need to glue the tongue and groove joints together to create a tight and secure fit. With click fitting bamboo flooring, you will simply click and lock the planks together without the need for glue.
