Horizontal and vertical bamboo flooring are very similar in terms of strength, durability and sustainability, but they look quite different. They have both been made using thin strips of bamboo, glued together. To achieve horizontal bamboo, the strips are glued together horizontally to give a wider grain pattern. To achieve vertical bamboo, the strips are glued together vertically to give a narrow grain pattern.

Construction - Solid Horizontal Bamboo
15mm thick bamboo strips glued together horizontally to form a wider, more prominent surface grain.
Colour - Carbonised
The warm brown colour is created by heating and smoking the bamboo. This colour is throughout the board so the surface colour will not be lost when sanding the floor.
Finish - Satin/Matt Lacquered
Pre-finished with 6 coats of satin German lacquer, inc UV protection. A satin/matt finish provides a slight shine to the surface. The lacquered finish adds additional strength and protection to the bamboo whilst maintaining its natural character and charm. This flooring is ready to use once installation is complete.
Profile Type - Tongue and Groove
Tongue and groove flooring is the traditional method of installing natural floors. Each plank of flooring has one long side and one short side with a protruding tongue and one long side and one short side with a rebated groove. The tongues and grooves fit together creating a snug and secure fit.
Installation method - Float over an underlay (Tongue & Groove)
Floating a floor over an underlay means that the planks of flooring are attached together by gluing the tongue and groove joint, but they are not fixed directly down to the subfloor; instead they float over a layer of underlay. There are various types of underlay including thermal barriers and sound reducing underlays.
OR
Installation method - Direct Glue Down
By gluing your bamboo floor directly down to the subfloor you will create a full surface bond between the existing floor and your new bamboo floor. You will need to use a flexible flooring adhesive to allow for natural movements with changes in temperature and humidity. Either solid or engineered bamboo flooring can be glued to the subfloor.
Acclimatisation
Your bamboo flooring will need to acclimatise to its surroundings before it can be installed. Bamboo flooring should be left for at least 2-3 days. It should be left in the room where it is going to be installed, which should be dry (no new drying plaster or concrete), heated to between 18 to 24° C and with a relative humidity of the atmosphere between 45-60%.
Maintenance & Aftercare
All types of bamboo floors are easy to look after and maintain. Simply sweep on a daily basis with a soft bristle brush to remove any dirt or dust, and then clean on a weekly basis (more often if needed) using a microfibre mop and wooden floor cleaning spray. To prevent any unwanted dents or damage to your hardwood, remember to remove outdoor footwear, use felt protector pads on the bottom of furniture, wipe away spills immediately and never drag heavy or sharp object across the floor. This will ensure that you floor keeps looking at its best for as long as possible.
